Description
Phool makhana — fox nuts, gorgon nuts, lotus pops — has been raked from the ponds of Darbhanga, Bihar for three centuries. Ours is the roasted makhana that stays true to that lineage: large, premium-grade pops (6-suta size), hand-harvested from Pond 14, sun-dried on the bund, popped over hot sand and roasted within 72 hours of harvest.
Three ingredients, nothing else. Fox nuts, cold-pressed groundnut oil and Himalayan pink salt. This is makhana without palm oil, without added sugar, without masala dust or anti-caking agents — roasted, never fried, so the airy crunch shatters instead of crumbling.
Why makhana? Fox nuts are naturally high in protein (about 3.2 g per 30 g serving), low in fat, gluten-free and vegan — the rare snack that is both genuinely light and genuinely satisfying. Our slow sand-and-drum roast keeps the glycaemic load gentle and the flavour clean: toasted grain, a whisper of pink salt, a faint water-chestnut sweetness.
